NO TURBULENCE is a screenplay that follows two grandparents reading the palm of their grandchild's hand. As the characters trace along the three major palm lines (the lifeline, career line, and love line), the narrative weaves through images of the Manhattan Detention Center complex, Lunar New Year celebrations, and protests in Chinatown. The title NO TURBULENCE refers simultaneously to the disconnect created while the grandparents project impossible dreams and aspirations for their grandchild, and to the pervasive expansion of the carceral state beneath the surface of New York City.
